To Whom It May Concern:

I have two years of teaching experience in Korea. I am currently working as anin-home care-giver for an agency that provides assistance to children andadults with disabilities. My long-term goals include researchingto provide insight into the learning process from a variety of perspectives(cross-cultural, through the lens of multiple disabilities, etc.). This beingso, I am always very interested to understand not only the mistake being madeby a student, but also the complex reasoning behind the mistake. I can promiseto be a dedicated, explorative educator and guide for the students with whomyou put me in contact.

If you think that I would prove to be an asset for a school in southeastSeoul/Seongnam, then please contact me as soon as possible by phone, email orSkype (ID: ric.joseph.graniero).

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.

  • I was responsible for teaching up to 40 classes a week, though it was normally around 35. The classes varied in size from one to ten students. The students were all of elementary school age and of varying levels of English proficiency. It was a challenging and fulfilling experience to have to patiently and energetically communicate to non-native speakers somewhat complex ideas. With less advanced students, I only taught the basics of English grammar and vocabulary. With the more advanced, I taught both English and science. The school was an after-school language academy, a hakwon. In addition to teaching from textbooks and workbooks, I was responsible for making worksheets, homework, quizzes, tests, and monthly report cards. I also had to do a fair amount of transcription work. I have managed to learn a decent amount of Korean and continue my studies to this day.

  • I worked as a residence hall care-taker and over-seer, as well as an aid on trips home for children who traveled back to the home of their parents on the weekends. My responsibilities included acting as a sighted-guide, providing food, assisting in cleaning, aid in toileting and showering, and interacting with the students of the school in a personal and meaningful way. The overall goal of the institution is to help the students learn to help themselves.  A limited amount of sign language was learned as a result of interaction with blind-deaf students.
