Cover Letter

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my interest in the teaching position at your ________ in South Korea. I am a native English speaker from the United States, and will be completing my B.A. in Criminal Justice and Sociology at the University of Massachusetts in Boston this May 2017. In addition to this, I have obtained my TEFL certification from the International TEFL Academy in Chicago. My decision to teach in South Korea can be attributed to your incredible culture, and my desire to experience it. I particularly love the importance of education and learning, and feel that I would have a lot to offer, and gain, from an opportunity such as this one if given the chance.

During a semester in college, I worked with troubled youth at a courthouse in Dorchester, Massachusetts. I conducted a course called Changing Lives Through Literature, where I engaged students every Tuesday for two hours on current events, including literature, musical lyrics, newspaper articles, media sources, etc. The goal of the course was to get students thinking about social problems, and ways they could contribute to making them better. This experience, along with my 20-hour assistant teaching practicum at the Boston School of Modern Languages, has given me a more broadened perspective on ways to teach along with a new set of skills I can apply towards being an effective instructor. I also learned how to work with students in a way that makes learning not only enjoyable, but easier. 

I also gained a great deal of experience in a business atmosphere while working full time during school, for a company called Merrill Corporation. I worked with many executives, investment bankers, lawyers, and other high-up positions on financial transactions such as Initial Public Offerings and Mergers & Acquisitions. This knowledge has allowed me to work easily in a professional environment, while being able to balance multiple responsibilities and work effectively with business individuals. These achievements would only add to the many skills that are required to be an ESL Instructor, and I hope for the opportunity to demonstrate this.

I am available to begin working as early as June/July of this year, and can start interviewing as soon as possible.
