To whom it may concern: My name is Garrett Rains. I chose to pursue teaching English as a foreign language upon the recommendation of current ESL instructors and from a career of building relationships with people of various International Backgrounds both personal and professional. A bit about myself. I was born in Nuremberg, Germany and immigrated to California, USA as a young child. Growing up I learned both English and German simultaneously. I have always had a passion for language. As a student have studied Spanish and I am currently learning Korean as well. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of Political Science/ Advocacy. During the course of my education, my studies included International Law, International Business, Philosophy, History and Civic Education. I have chosen to apply as an ESL Instructor in Korea because I feel it is a nation of limitless opportunity, inspiration and growth potential. As a student of Politics and History I have grown very interested and intrigued by the meteoric rise of this small Asian Nation. I would be honored to help the young population of Korea to gain the language skills to compete in a global marketplace. I strongly feel that it would be a fantastic learning experience for me! On a personal note: my significant other is Korean and I feel that spending more time in the country and teaching English to Korean students will help me grow as an individual as well! I sincerely hope to bring my knowledge and experience to aid your organization in achieving its goals!

My job experience has primarily been In the professional sales and customer service field. I worked as an Account Specialist with Enterprise Rent a Car as well as a Liability Claims Investigator with GEICO. In regards to my teaching experience: I took Spanish classes for 5 years, during which as part of our education we were asked to create lesson plans to teach Spanish to native English speakers. The grade levels ranged from kindergarten to 3rd grade. Our lesson plans included daily activities and objects, learning games and merit based rewards. In addition to my teaching experience I have also worked on local city government projects. During and after my time in college I worked for various political campaigns. These were positions where I was asked to organize community outreach teams to speak with voters and distribute literature. I was responsible for organizing San Diego county(California) into specific voter precincts and direct the teams to canvass each area. At Humboldt State University I also founded the Humboldt Political Action Club. It is an organization dedicated to community outreach and empowerment. We worked on local city, county and state issues. Locally, we petitioned the Arcata, CA city council to repairs the city streets and roads, making them safer for all the city's residents. The achievement I am most proud of was a California State Proposition Voter Educational Forum which was held at the University. I organized a large lecture hall where the professors gathered to inform and discuss with students regarding upcoming issues in the State of California. It was very well received and successful!
