Dear Director,
Teaching is a bond between teacher and student. It is organic in nature; guided by formal rules. I say organic because in teaching there should always be a free flow of ideas and knowledge; guided by rules and laws that govern the English language. My Name is Varrick Paul Colbourne. I have an extensive career as a writer for a large newspaper and as an editor for a television station. I am looking for work as an ESL teacher to bring the English language to life for my students. I am interested in working with students of any age. I would accept employment in an academy or a government school. The passion to learn is the key!
A teacher is more than someone giving information. A teacher is 50 per cent of the equation. The student is the other half. I believe a teacher should get to know his class. This would establish an atmosphere of trust and guidance for everyone. Making the class dynamic and fun is important to keep students excited about learning. An interested student is a student who will gain knowledge. Teaching a lesson involves giving the students new information to build on what they already learned and using it in the context of the classroom as well as in everyday life. The teacher's role is to keep them on the right path and guide them as they go forward.
As a news reporter it was important to write a story that was not only accurate in facts but grammatically correct. I always believed that mistakes in grammar lowered my credibility as a professional journalist. I also helped new reporters with grammar skills. I would proofread their stories and suggest changes. As an ESL Teacher, My backgroundf in journalism helped be bring real world experiences to the classooom. I discovered that being an native English speaker gave me additional skills that went beyound just knowing verb tenses.
