To Whom It May Concern,

I am pleased to be applying for this teaching position in South Korea where I can use my expertise and passion for English education and Korean culture to teach students. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Utah and will be graduating in August with a degree in Linguistics and minor in Korean Studies with a TESOL certificate.

Throughout my undergraduate program, I have been interested in English, Linguistics, and Korean. With these interests, I have long hoped to have the opportunity to teach English in South Korea, not only as an opportunity to gain experience teaching but also as an opportunity to learn more about Korean language and culture as well as introduce American culture to my students first hand. In particular, I have an interest in teaching in South Korea as it is in need of qualified teachers who are genuinely interested in Korea and Korean culture.

While I have not had extensive experience teaching previously, my TESOL courses at my university have given me a foundation in educational principles and theories as well as an excellent understanding of English conversation and grammar. As such, I am confident in my ability to provide a quality education to my students and to work with them to make sure that they truly have an understanding of grammar concepts, writing skills, and speaking.

I believe that the most productive learning comes from fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. I will work hard to make sure that every student is included and considers the classroom a safe environment to speak and get involved in classroom activities. Through this environment, I believe students will be able to reach their full potential and make significant progress in their English education.

Finally, I hope to use this as an opportunity to benefit myself through teaching experience as well as benefit my students through an education from a passionate teacher and advocate for language learning. Just as the students are learning English, so am I learning Korean; therefore, I have an understanding of the frustrations and difficulties language learners can feel and can use this to help encourage students to continue their education and show them the invaluable benefit a solid understanding of English can provide.

I have received a B.A. in Linguistics and minor in Korean Studies from the University of Utah with an additional TESOL certificate. As for teaching experience, I have spent over 60 hours observing and assisting in ESL classrooms in both high school and college settings as part of my undergraduate curriculum. I have also had the opportunity to tutor students in both English writing and ESL for the past two years. Besides ESL experience, I have also worked as an undergraduate researcher in the Speech Acquisition Lab at the University of Utah where I worked on second language acquisition research.
